Teens in grades 8-12 meet on Monday nights at Temple Emanuel in Woodcliff Lake for a Tikkun Olam/ Service-learning program from 7-8:30 with dinner.
In this program that we call “BCHSJS NORTH” students, with the help of an educator, create a service project from the following categories that they will implement:

  • Environment
  • Taking care of Jewish cemeteries
  • Disability/ Inclusion
  • Poverty (including food insecurity)
  • The Elderly/ Holocaust Survivors

To participate in Better to Serve, BCHSJS North, students must commit to 16 hours of education, and 16 hours of a sustained volunteer project. Depending on the project, this volunteer work will happen as a whole group or as individuals and will require a commitment from the teen and their families to do these service hours on mutually agreed upon times, not always Monday evenings.  Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of completion to enhance their college resumes, and the school will have a BetterToServe banner and a plaque with the name of the participants, and the opportunity to participate in a writing contest with scholarship prize money.
